About Us

Japan Hawaii Help Line Engokai is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Honolulu, Hawaii, dedicated to providing compassionate, multilingual support services to Japanese-speaking residents, students, workers, and visitors throughout the Hawaiian Islands. Our name, "Engokai," reflects our core purpose — a society of mutual aid and support, rooted in the values of community, respect, and care.

Mission & Vision

Our mission is to ensure that Japanese-speaking individuals in Hawaii have access to the information, guidance, and emotional support they need to navigate life's challenges with confidence and dignity. We envision a Hawaii where language and cultural barriers never prevent anyone from receiving the help they deserve, and where the Japanese and Hawaiian communities are united by bonds of understanding and mutual respect.

Why We Exist

Hawaii is home to a large and vibrant Japanese community, as well as thousands of Japanese students, workers, and tourists who visit each year. Many face unique challenges including language barriers, cultural adjustment, legal questions, and personal crises. Japan Hawaii Help Line Engokai was established to provide a trusted, confidential, and culturally sensitive resource for those who need guidance and support in their native language.
